William P. Hite
The United Association's chief officer is its General President, William P. Hite. Bill Hite has served in this position since December 1, 2004. As General President, he is responsible for overseeing the day to day affairs of the United Association, for supervising the overall interests of the UA and for rendering decisions and adjusting disputes concerning matters affecting the organization. He is vested with the authority to interpret and apply the United Association Constitution, subject to appeal to the UA's General Executive Board in appropriate cases.
General President Hite presides at all United Association conventions and at meetings of the General Executive Board. On matters in which the General Executive Board is equally divided, he is empowered to cast the deciding vote. In addition to being responsible for many decisions concerning internal union governance, the General President represents the face of the United Association in dealings with employer associations, fellow labor organizations and the general public.
In addition to serving as the UA's General President, Bill Hite is the President of the Mechanical Allied Crafts, which consists of the UA, the IBEW, the Sheet Metal Workers, the Ironworkers, the Insulators, and the Elevator Constructors. He is also an elected member of the AFL-CIO Executive Committee and the AFL-CIO Executive Council. He is a member of the Governing Board of Presidents of the Building Trades Department, AFL-CIO and a member of the Executive Council of the Metal Trades Department, AFL-CIO.
